How to Store a Chocolate Fountain

The party is over. The chocolate fountain was the hit of the evening. So, what do you do with your chocolate fountain?

First, do not let the chocolate harden. If the chocolate is allowed to harden, it will make the cleaning and storing process much more involved and much more time consuming. Cleanup and storage are quite easy if they are done immediately after your event.

The fountain consists of a few simple components that disassemble easily for thorough cleaning. The base, which contains the heating element, the motor, and all the electrical equipment, should have all of the remaining chocolate poured or scooped out. Then, the base can be washed with a warm, wet towel. DO NOT SUBMERGE. Submerging the basin in water will permanently damage it.

The remaining components, the tower, auger, and the crown, can be hand washed in hot soapy water or even placed in the dishwasher. If your dishwasher is not large enough to accommodate the tower, it can be easily disassembled so the tiers will fit.

Since the fountain is made of commercial-grade stainless steel, it is quite a durable item. However, you should be sure to store the fountain only after it is completely dry. It should be kept in a box or protective case and stored in a cool dry place. Look for models of chocolate fountains that come with their own protective storage cases.

If you are diligent in following these steps, you can count on years of enjoyment from your chocolate fountain.
